In 2018, Ukraine's Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) paid assistance worth more than UAH 17 million to the families of political prisoners and prisoners of war.

Head of the Department for the Issues of Detained Persons at the Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs, Ihor Hryb, said this during a presentation of the results of the Ministry’s work for the past year.

"As of December 31, 2018, the Ministry paid UAH 17.200,000 of state assistance to the families of political prisoners and prisoners of war," he said.

The official noted that all the families of 24 sailors detained by Russia in November 2018 had received financial assistance after the adoption of the relevant decree by the Cabinet.

“As of December 31, 2018, we were able to make payments to 77 families of Ukrainian political prisoners who are held in the Russian prisons and in the temporarily occupied Crimea,” Hryb added.
