Ukrainian delegation to support candidate Kubilius for position of CoE Secretary General

Most members of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will support the candidacy of Lithuanian politician Andrius Kubilius for the position of the Secretary General.

“To avoid speculations: PACE members elect the Secretary General of the Council of Europe. Most Ukrainian delegation members decided long ago that we support candidate Andrius Kubilius, the former Lithuanian prime minister and the author of the draft Marshall Plan for Ukraine,” Ukrainian MP, chairman of the delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the PACE Volodymyr Aryev posted on Facebook.

The four countries already submitted to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe their candidates for the position of new Secretary General of the Council of Europe. The candidates are Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders; former prime minister, member of the Lithuanian Parliament Andrius Kubilius; former foreign minister, member of the Greek Parliament Dora Bakoyannis; and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia Marija Pejcinovic Buric.
