OSCE promises support if UN peacekeepers are deployed to Donbas

The OSCE is ready to provide support if the decision is made to deploy a UN peacekeeping mission to the eastern part of Ukraine.

OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak said this at a press conference in Vienna on Thursday, January 10, an Ukrinform correspondent said.

I discussed this issue with the UN Secretary-General. I will also report at the Security Council in a few weeks. So if the decision is made to deploy such a mission, the OSCE is ready to use its experience to provide support, he said, while commenting at Ukrinform’s request on a possible peacekeeping mission in Donbas.

At the same time, Lajcak said the issue of peacekeepers should better be addressed to the UN.

This issue was discussed, it was mentioned, but it is now not officially on the agenda of the Security Council. There is nothing to comment on at the moment, but we are monitoring the development of the situation as a whole, he said.
