Polish foreign minister proposes appointing UN envoy for Ukraine

Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz proposes appointing UN Secretary-General's envoy for Ukraine.

"I propose appointing UN Secretary-General's envoy for Ukraine," Czaputowicz said in an interview with the Handelsblatt German newspaper.

He also stressed that the European Union and the United States should join the Normandy format (Ukraine, Germany, France, Russia).

"Germany and France may think that they represent Europe, but it is not so actually. Only European institutions can represent us, in this case the High Representative [of EU], not other countries," the Polish foreign minister emphasized.

The representatives of Polish authorities have repeatedly stated that the Normandy format is ineffective and suggested that the EU and the US should join it.

Poland is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2018-2019.
