Ukraine expects U.S. assistance in increasing its defense capabilities – ambassador

Ukraine is waiting for assistance from NATO and the United States in increasing its defense capabilities, Ukraine's Ambassador to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly has told the Chas-Time program of the Ukrainian Service of the Voice of America.

"Russia poses a threat not only to Ukraine, but also to Europe as a whole. The United States sees Russia as a threat, and this was not the case before, therefore we are already working together. We expect the extension of assistance [from the U.S. and NATO] in increasing our defensive capabilities. We are also waiting for the development of concrete projects in the field of energy, energy security," he said.

Earlier, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst, who now serves as director of the Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council, said that the United States would give arms to Ukraine and announce new sanctions against Russia due to its aggression in the Kerch Strait in two or three months.
