U.S. lawmakers call on Trump to lead freedom of navigation operation in Black Sea

A resolution calling for a prompt multinational freedom of navigation operation in the Black Sea and urging the cancellation of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline has been submitted to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

“The Senate calls upon the President to work with United States allies to promptly lead a robust multinational freedom of navigation operation in the Black Sea to help demonstrate support for internationally recognized borders, bilateral agreements, and safe passage through the Kerch Strait and Sea of Azov and to push back against excessive Russian Federation claims of sovereignty,” reads the resolution.

As the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies (CACDS) reports, a group of US lawmakers submitted to the Senate a resolution calling on President Donald Trump to take actions to deter Russian aggression in the Black Sea by leading a freedom of navigation operation, strengthening the presence of NATO in the region, banning Russian ships from entering the ports of Europe and the United States and cancelling the Nord Stream 2 project.
