Militarization of occupied Crimea threatens with military escalation - Swiss Foreign Ministry

Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea, its militarization and the tension in the region of the Black and Azov Seas create a potential source of new military escalation.

Swiss State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Pascale Baeriswyl said this during the 25th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan on December 6.

"The illegal annexation of Crimea, the militarization of this territory and the intense confrontation in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov create a potential source of new military escalation," she said.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry called on the parties to promote a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Baeriswyl also said that Switzerland would continue to support the important work of the OSCE SMM in Ukraine and the work of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk.

“Solution to the conflict in Ukraine is an important task for restoring security in Europe,” the Swiss diplomat said.
