Diaspora calls on Canada to support Ukraine in NATO

Ahead of the meeting of NATO foreign ministers (December 4-5), the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) wrote to Canada’s Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, calling for a united response by Canada and NATO Allies to Russia’s aggression against Ukrainian vessels in the Sea of Azov.

The UCC calls on Canada and our NATO allies to significantly strengthen sectoral sanctions against Russia for its continued aggression against Ukraine, the letter reads.

The UCC asks Canada to increase military assistance to Ukraine, including providing Ukraine with naval armaments, surface-to-ship missiles, patrol boats, radar systems and surveillance equipment; demand the immediate release of the 24 Ukrainian sailors taken prisoner by Russia on November 25, and the immediate release of over 70 Ukrainian political prisoners illegally jailed by Russia; increase NATO’s naval presence in the region to deter further Russian maritime aggression against Ukraine and other states.
