Poland advocates expanding sanctions against Russia

Poland advocates expanding of sanctions against Russia over its aggressive actions against Ukraine in the Kerch Strait.

“Some countries oppose the expansion of sanctions. Poland believes that these sanctions should be introduced,” Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said on the air of the Polish Radio on the eve of his visit to Ukraine.

He added that the final communiqué of the EU regarding the incident in the Kerch Strait did not mention the imposition of sanctions.

Czaputowicz noted that Warsaw understood the stance of Kyiv on the need to expand sanctions against the Russian Federation.

“We believe that Ukraine has reason to demand a more decisive stance of the EU and the West. As part of our diplomatic actions at the international forums whether in the EU, or in NATO, or the UN Security Council, we everywhere touch upon the problem of a decisive response to Russian aggression, that is, we share the stance of Ukraine and will defend this stance at the forums,” the Polish foreign minister stressed.

Czaputowicz said that his two-day visit to Ukraine, which begins on Friday, took a new meaning in the context of the Russian aggression in the Sea of Azov. Consequently, this issue will prevail at the negotiations in Kyiv.
