Poroshenko, Plenkovic discuss coordination of efforts to stop Russian meddling in elections

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković have discussed the coordination of efforts to counteract the Russian interference in electoral processes in Ukraine and the European Union next year.

The meeting was held in Helsinki as part of the official visit of the Ukrainian president to the Republic of Finland, the president’s press service reports.

“The leaders stressed the importance of increasing coordination of efforts to neutralize Russian interference in electoral processes in Ukraine and the EU in 2019,” reads the report.

The parties stressed the importance of consolidating international efforts to restore territorial integrity of Ukraine and counter Russia’s further aggression, expansion of its military presence in the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, including by strengthening sanctions.

At the same time, Petro Poroshenko and Andrej Plenković expressed content with the high dynamics of bilateral political dialogue. They also noted the renewal of the work of the Joint Ukrainian-Croatian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, as well as the practical activities of the Working Group on the Study of Croatia's Unique Experience in the Peaceful Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, the last meeting of which took place in Kyiv on October 25, 2018.

The parties also discussed prospects for developing energy cooperation in order to strengthen Europe's energy security.

As reported, President Petro Poroshenko in on an official visit to the Republic of Finland on November 7-8.
