Germany supports extension of sanctions against Russia – Merkel

Germany stands for the extension of sanctions against Russia, since the Minsk agreements are not implemented.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said this at a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at the Mariinsky Palace in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“Unfortunately, the Minsk agreements are not respected. If something happens, it is a millimeter forward, and from time to time it is a step backward. Therefore, Germany will stand for the continuation of sanctions,” the chancellor said.

As reported, on Thursday, November 1, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel is on a working visit to Ukraine. During the visit, Merkel will meet with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy and chairmen of deputy groups and factions of the Ukrainian parliament. This is the second visit of Merkel to Ukraine in the last four years; the previous one took place in August 2014.
