Lukashenko proposes deploying joint UN-OSCE mission to Donbas

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has proposed considering the possibility of deploying a UN and OSCE peacekeeping mission to eastern Ukraine.

He stated this at the opening of the Munich Security Conference Core Group Meeting in Minsk on Wednesday, according to BELTA.

"Let us be frank. A solution to the conflict in Donbas, if desired, could have been found long ago. We must continue to work on strengthening the capabilities of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine and the Trilateral Contact Group. We are ready to consider the creation in Minsk of a technical point of the Trilateral Contact Group and other things about which we can agree today in Europe," Lukashenko said.

He also considers it important that the diplomatic dialogue be supplemented with interaction between parliamentarians, representatives of regional authorities, civil society, and experts.
