Sweden at UN: Illegal elections in occupied Donbas violate Minsk agreements

Sweden strongly opposes to holding of so-called local elections in the occupied territories of Donbas, as they would violate the Minsk agreements.

Deputy Permanent Representative of Sweden to the UN Carl Skau said this during a meeting of the UN Security Council held in New York on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"The so-called "elections" in Donbas scheduled for November are a blatant violation of the Minsk agreements. We urge Russia to assume its responsibility and use its influence to stop them from being held," the Swedish diplomat said.

He also called for the full implementation of the Minks agreements, starting with an immediate and lasting ceasefire.

As reported, an open meeting of the UN Security Council regarding the situation in eastern Ukraine was held in New York on Tuesday.
