UK urges Russia to stop militarization of Crimea

The Russian Federation should abandon militarization of the illegally occupied Crimea.

Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations, Karen Pierce made the relevant statement at the open session of the UN Security Council on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We urge Russia to abandon its destabilizing arms and personnel transfers into the peninsula," Pierce said.

In addition, she criticized the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait, calling it "an outright violation of the sovereignty of Ukraine."

"The systematic persecution and halt of Ukrainian and third-country ships by Russia in the Sea of Azov since April is another attempt to destabilize Ukraine and its economy," the diplomat said.

The UK’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations also expressed concern over Russian cyber attacks targeting the financial, energy and government sectors of Ukraine.

As reported, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that Ukraine had been hit by over 6,000 Russian cyber attacks over the past four years.
