Hungary interested in maintaining good neighborly relations with Ukraine

Budapest is interested in maintaining good relations with Kyiv and is ready for consultations.

This is said in the statement of Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijiarto posted on the website of the Foreign Ministry of Hungary.

"Hungary is interested in maintaining good neighborly relations with Ukraine and calls on its eastern neighbor to be a democratic country that respects its international obligations and sees the national minorities living on its territory, including the Hungarian minority, as a source of strength," Szijiarto said on the sidelines of the Eastern Partnership Foreign Ministers meeting in Luxembourg on Monday.

Having met with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin, Szijiarto said that his country was always ready for consultations. “Hungary expects Ukraine to prove in fact rather than in word it seeks to settle the situation, not exacerbate it,” he noted.
