Ukraine guarantees religious freedom for people of any faith - Poroshenko

President Petro Poroshenko has said that the state guarantees the religious freedom for people of any faith.

He stated this in his address on the occasion of the issue a tomos of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“The Ukrainian government guarantees the full respect for the religious freedom for people of all confessions. There is no state church, we never had it and there will never be one. And nobody will be ‘invited by force’ to the Orthodox Church consecrated with Tomos,” Poroshenko said.

He noted that the joint creation of an independent church cannot be the basis for discord, for confrontation, for violence. “We certainly can't let it happen. On the opposite side, it is a road to peace, comfort and understanding,” Poroshenko said.

On October 11, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate decided to issue a tomos of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
