UK promises to impose additional sanctions on Russia after Brexit

The United Kingdom intends to impose additional sanctions on the Russian Federation after the country's withdrawal from the EU in March 2019.

"A tougher sanctions regime will become a reality after the UK's withdrawal from the EU in March 2019 as at the moment it is impossible to impose bilateral sanctions. Your security is our security also," Thomas Tugendhat, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, said during a meeting with Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, in London.

The experience of Ukraine in countering hybrid attacks is extremely valuable for the UK, Tugendhat noted.

The parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in identifying and countering disinformation.

Julian Lewis, the Chair of the Defence Committee of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, in turn, said that the United Kingdom would make every effort to promote peace in the occupied territories of Donbas and restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The parliamentarians assured that Ukraine had significant support in the British Parliament and agreed that it was necessary to continue an active dialogue with representatives of the EU Member States on Russia's aggressive policy, in particular, in the context of countering the construction of Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
