Poroshenko, Lajcak discuss release of Kremlin’s political prisoners

President Petro Poroshenko and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčák held a meeting on October 4, the president’s press service reported.

“The parties exchanged views on the important issues of bilateral relations and international agenda. The issues of expanding cooperation in the areas of trade and economy, defense, energy security and border cooperation were considered. The importance of holding a regular meeting of the intergovernmental Ukrainian-Slovak commission on economic, industrial and scientific-technical cooperation in the near future was noted,” reads the report.

According to the president’s press service, special attention was paid to the cooperation between the two countries in the context of Slovakia's chairmanship of the OSCE in 2019. In particular, the parties discussed the ways to increase the role of this organization in monitoring the observance of human rights in the occupied territories of Ukraine and in the process of liberating the Ukrainian political prisoners of the Kremlin.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian-Slovak cooperation on European integration, Euro-Atlantic issues, as well as in the framework of international organizations was also discussed.
