Almost 66% of Ukrainians support accession to European Union

65.7% of Ukrainians would support the country’s accession to the European Union on the referendum.

Such results of the poll were presented by Director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, Volodymyr Paniotto, and his deputy Anton Hryshytsky at a press conference on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"If a referendum on Ukraine’s accession to the EU was held, 47.9% of the country's population would vote in favor, 25.1% would vote against, and 11.5% would abstain and would not vote. Another 15.5% of respondents were undecided or refused to answer the question... 65.7% of Ukrainians, who are ready to participate in the referendum, would vote for joining the European Union," the sociologists said.

According to Paniotto, 72% of the residents of western Ukraine, 48% of the residents of central Ukraine, 32.2% of the population of southern Ukraine, 31.9% of eastern Ukraine residents and 24.3% of the population of Donbas would support joining the EU.

The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology conducted the poll on September 12-24 throughout Ukraine, except for Crimea and the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
