Ukrainian president arrives in New York

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has arrived in New York at the head of an official delegation to participate in the high-level general debate of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

The head of state will stay in the United States for three days, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

The president is expected to take part in the opening of the general debate at the level of heads of state and government on Tuesday, September 25. In the afternoon on Wednesday (local time) Poroshenko is expected to deliver a speech in the session hall of the UN General Assembly. The head of state is expected to participate in the UN peacekeeping summit and other official events as part of the General Assembly. In this regard, the Ukrainian side is expected to again raise the issue of the need to deploy a UN peacekeeping force to Donbas.

The president is also due to have bilateral meetings with the leaders of the European Union and foreign countries. Special attention will be paid to the deepening of Ukrainian-American relations in trade, economic and investment spheres. To this end, Poroshenko will meet with representatives of the U.S. business community. In addition, he will meet with the leaders of the Ukrainian community in the United States and the leaders of Jewish organizations in the United States.

It is not ruled out that Poroshenko will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the General Assembly. In particular, the Ukrainian leader is expected to attend a reception on behalf of the U.S. president. In addition, he plans to attend a high-level working lunch on behalf of the UN Secretary-General.
