Ukraine, Georgia to cooperate in combating organized and drug-related crime

Ukraine and Georgia will cooperate in the fight against organized crime figures and drug-related crimes.

This was discussed at the meeting of Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov with Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia, the Ministry’s press service reports.

"We are interested in the cooperation between the criminal divisions of the police. The main problem is the identification of persons and the rapid exchange of information. We had situations when for a long time we could not get information about the detained Georgian citizens. We understood that was an organized crime figure, but there was no confirmation from the Georgian side," Avakov said.

First Deputy Chief of Ukraine’s National Police, Vyacheslav Abroskin, suggested creating a joint working group of criminal police officers for cooperation and rapid exchange of information to respond quickly to the threats. The contact group will unite the police officers from Ukraine, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The parties also discussed the issue of combating drug-related crime.

In turn, Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia noted that the Georgian side was ready for fruitful cooperation in all areas. He also praised the significant successes of the cyber ​​police department of the National Police of Ukraine.
