Statement of militants on ‘elections’ in occupied Donbas not influences Germany's position on Ukraine – Foreign Ministry

The announcement of holding "elections" in the so-called "Luhansk People's Republic" and "Donetsk People's Republic" will not influence the official position of Germany on Ukraine.

German Foreign Ministry Spokesman Rainer Breul stated this at a briefing on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"Position of the German Federal Government on Ukraine is clear, and it has not changed after the announcement of the so-called "elections". The official position lies in the fact that borders in Europe should not change in a violent way. We adhere to the line of respect for the political and territorial sovereignty of Ukraine," the diplomat said.

On September 7, militants in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions announced that "elections" will be held on November 11.

The European External Action Service stated in a statement that the announcement of holding "elections" in the so-called "Luhansk People's Republic" and "Donetsk People's Republic" ran contrary to the Minsk agreements.
