‘Luhansk People’s Republic’ wants to transfer 44 prisoners to Ukraine - media

The self-proclaimed “Luhansk People’s Republic” intends to transfer to Ukraine the prisoners of the Sukhodilska correctional camp who were sentenced prior to 2014.

This became known during the visit of OSCE Coordinator in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group, Ambassador Toni Frisch, to the prisoners, TASS reported.

"It was decided to transfer 44 prisoners to the territory controlled by Ukraine," the report reads.

In August, at least five prisoners died in correctional camps in the occupied territory of Luhansk region. The relatives of prisoners complain about cruel treatment, lack of medical care and proper conditions for prisoners.

Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross with a request to clarify the circumstances of deaths of Ukrainian citizens in penitentiary facilities.
