Poroshenko instructs to develop Ukrainian maritime doctrine

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed to develop the Ukrainian maritime doctrine, taking into account the current situation with the blockade of ships in the Sea of Azov.

"I would like to ask the government to make efforts to accelerate development of the maritime doctrine, where we will take into account the current situation in the Sea of Azov," Poroshenko said at the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The President noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice should submit proposals on legal protection of national interests and compensation for losses the state suffers due to Russia’s blocking of the Sea of Azov.

As reported, Ukraine intends to raise the issue of Russian provocations in the Sea of Azov at the UN General Assembly session.

According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as of the end of August, Russia had detained more than 150 foreign vessels that were moving towards the Ukrainian ports on the Sea of Azov.
