President together with diplomats and military honored memory of Senator McCain

During a working trip to Donetsk region, at a meeting with heads of Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad and Ukrainian military of the 92nd brigade, President Petro Poroshenko, along with diplomats and Ukrainian soldiers, honored memory of American Senator John McCain who died on August 25.

"There is another great person who was here with me on the eve of the New Year on December 31. His name is John McCain. A great statesman and a great friend of Ukraine," the president said and recalled their joint trip to the Ukrainian marines in Shyrokyne, the press service of the head of state reported.

"When I offered him to go with me and congratulate the Ukrainian marines in Shyrokyne, he postponed his visit to Georgia and said that his place was here in Ukraine," Poroshenko said.

"He said: Russia will pay its big price for this completely irresponsible venture. And he devoted all his life after that to protect Ukraine and Ukrainians," the president added.

Poroshenko instructed the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States to organize an interaction with the American side to honor the memory of John McCain. The attendees honored memory of the Senator with a moment of silence.
