Ukrainian, Finnish presidents speak about Donbas and liberation of Sentsov

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has discussed with President of Finland Sauli Niinistö further steps to settle the situation in Donbas and the release of Oleg Sentsov and other political prisoners of the Kremlin.

The presidents held a phone conversation on Friday, the press service of the Ukrainian head of state reported.

"The interlocutors coordinated positions and future efforts to ensure progress in the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas. The parties noted the importance of the release of Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners illegally kept in the temporarily occupied territories and in Russia, including the immediate release of Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov," the report reads.

The presidents of both countries discussed the topical issues of the bilateral agenda, in particular, agreed upon the terms of the next contacts at the highest level.

In addition, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö congratulated President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Ukrainian people on the Independence Day.

In turn, Petro Poroshenko congratulated Sauli Niinistö on his 70th anniversary and thanked for his significant personal contribution to ensuring consistent support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
