German president congratulates Ukraine on Independence Day

President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier sent congratulations to President Petro Poroshenko and the Ukrainian people on the occasion of the Independence Day.

"On the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine, I send to you and to the Ukrainian people the most sincere congratulations - also on behalf of the citizens of Germany," the letter reads, the press service of the Ukrainian president reports.

Steinmeier noted that his visit to Ukraine on May 29-30 this year once again demonstrated the cultural richness and beauty of Ukraine.

"The German-Ukrainian year of languages, which is about end, is a good example of the lively dialogue of civil society in our countries," the letter reads.

The German president assures that his country supports Ukraine in overcoming the political, economic and social challenges that exist in our country. "Together with its European and international partners, Germany will further stand for the people in Ukraine to have free, self-determined life in peace, stability and prosperity," he assured.

Steinmeier noted that Ukraine would be able to achieve this goal by continuing the course of reforms resolutely.

The German president wished a happy and peaceful future for Ukraine.
