Ministry for Veterans Affairs should mostly consist of combatants – Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that the Ministry for Veterans Affairs should be a ministry of opportunities and most of its employees should be combatants.

He stated this at the international volunteer and veteran forum "Ukraine Is Where We Are," an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"It [the Ministry for Veterans Affairs] should not be only the department for social protection of veterans, as some people are trying to present it to society. It should be a ministry of opportunities. Most of the ministry's staff should consist of combatants: veterans, volunteers, public activists, the majority of whom are quite young, proactive, progressive people. You are maximally motivated for effective changes, and we together should find common mechanisms for quality resolution of issues for the self-realization of each of you," Poroshenko said.

He also stressed that due to joint activities, "we will form an effective Ukrainian state policy on the social adaptation of veterans, taking into account the best foreign experience".
