G7 ambassadors welcome completion of process on creation of anti-corruption court in Ukraine

The ambassadors of the G7 countries welcome the completion of the legislative process launching the work of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) in Ukraine and are ready to support Ukraine in its aspiration to establish an effective court.

The G7 ambassadors said this in a statement on Twitter.

"G7 Ambassadors welcome completion of the legislative process forming the HACC. We look forward to supporting Ukraine as it establishes an effective Court, a key component of Ukraine's system of independent anti-corruption institutions, the integrity of which must be protected," reads the statement.

The G7 ambassadors also encouraged close cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF in implementing all other necessary actions for release of the next IMF tranche, which is important for sustaining growth and macroeconomic stability.

On August 2, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed the law introducing amendments to the law of Ukraine on the judicial system and the status of judges, which opens the way for the functioning of the High Anti-Corruption Court.

On August 2, the High Qualifications Commission of Judges of Ukraine (HQCJ) announced a competition for 39 posts of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court.

The submission of documents will last from August 8, 2018 to September 14, 2018, in electronic and paper form.

As part of the competition procedure to the High Anti-Corruption Court, the commission has already begun work on the creation of a public council of international experts, which should help the HQCJ establish the criteria of integrity and professional ethics for candidates for judges. The HQCJ expects international organizations to submit proposals before August 15 in order to select the best candidates.
