Putin not planning to implement any agreements - Parubiy

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy has said that the extension of the effect of the law on the special order of self-government in some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in October this year will not have any effect.

He said this during his working visit to Tustan, Lviv region, on August 4, according to the official web portal of the Ukrainian parliament.

"Putin did not plan and does not plan to implement any agreements," reads the statement.

Parubiy recalled that a year ago many of the people's deputies emotionally protested against this extension.

"This year shower that no changes had taken place. Before this year's termination of the term, we will consult on whether it is necessary to extend the effect of the law, or there is no such need," he said.

He noted that this decision would largely depend on the position of international partners, "because it is clear that it is extremely important to keep in place the sanctions against Russia."

"It is important to maintain Ukraine's international position to protect Ukrainian interests not only at the state level," Parubiy said.

As reported, on October 6, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine extended for one year the effect of the law of the special order of self-government in some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The law foresees that a special order of local self-government in certain areas of Donbas is introduced only after the fulfillment of the conditions set forth in Article 10, in particular regarding the withdrawal of all illegal armed formations, their military equipment, as well as militants and mercenaries from Ukrainian territory.
