President signs law on improving certain procedures for phytosanitary inspection

President Petro Poroshenko has signed the Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Regarding the Settlement of Certain Phytosanitary Procedures,” the president’s press service reports.

"The introduction of the law will allow bringing the Ukrainian legislation in the field of plant quarantine in line with the requirements of the European Union legislation," reads the report.

The law envisages amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, which, in particular, provides for imposing a fine on phytosanitary laboratory experts for violating the legislation of Ukraine on plant quarantine.

Also, amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Plant Quarantine" introduce new terms and procedures in the field of plant quarantine, in particular, the conducting of a phytosanitary expertise by laboratories of any form of ownership, including non-state laboratories.

In addition, the law provides for the establishment of the Register of Authorized Phytosanitary Laboratories and the Register of Phytosanitary Certificates.

As reported, this law was approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on July 10.
