Canada to allocate about $5 mln to strengthen women's movement in Ukraine

The international charitable organization "Ukrainian Women's Fund" will receive from Canada a grant worth about $5 million for a project to strengthen the women's movement in Ukraine.

"Ukrainian Women's Fund has been chosen to implement the initiative of the Canadian organization Women's Voice and Leadership and will receive $4.75 million to strengthen the women's movement in Ukraine. Ukrainian Women's Fund receives a grant for the project," Marie-Claude Bibeau, the Minister of International Development of Canada, announced at a press conference on Monday, July 23, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I look forward to seeing how women of different age, ethnicity and sexual orientation get more powers and strength thanks to our help to women's movements," Bibeau emphasized.

According to the minister, the public opinion polls show that Ukrainians are ready to participate in addressing the issues of gender equality and inclusion. In this context, the Canadian politician urged Ukrainian women to continue to seek changes in politics and legislation, as well as to fight against "harmful and discriminatory social beliefs and practices."
