Poroshenko, Macron discuss possibility of intensifying negotiation process within Normandy format

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has met with President of France Emmanuel Macron as part of a working visit to Brussels for participation in the NATO Summit.

According to the press service of the head of the Ukrainian state, the parties discussed the security situation in Donbas and agreed on further steps to ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission. They considered it necessary to intensify the negotiation process in the Normandy format.

Poroshenko stressed the importance of consolidating international efforts to intensify pressure on Russia to immediately release all Ukrainian political prisoners, including Oleg Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko and Volodymyr Balukh.

At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian state thanked the EU for its decision to extend economic sanctions until January 31, 2019.

Poroshenko reiterated the invitation to Macron to visit Ukraine that would be of particular importance in light of the celebration of the Year of the French Language in Ukraine, which will begin on September 3, 2018.
