President calls for tougher sanctions against Russia over Kerch bridge

President Petro Poroshenko says that tougher sanctions should be imposed on the Russian Federation because of the Kerch bridge.

He stated this at a joint press conference with European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Monday, July 9, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I want to urge the capital of the European Union to continue pressure on the Russian Federation until its behavior is changed... We condemn any construction of the Kerch bridge to protect the Black Sea and other seas. We agree to increase our pressure and strengthen sanction restrictions against Russia," Poroshenko said.

As Ukrinform reported, the 20th EU-Ukraine summit took place in Brussels (Belgium) on July 9. The summit was dedicated to discussing the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, including the establishment of a deep and comprehensive free trade area, and prospects for further deepening Ukraine's sectoral integration in the areas of the digital market, energy union, customs, justice and domestic affairs.
