Ukraine’s electoral code could be passed in October

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy assumes that the lawmakers will start to consider the electoral code in the second reading in September.

"I assume that the electoral code will be considered in autumn. I believe it should be considered and adopted a year before the elections. That is, when we say that the parliamentary elections should be held on the last Sunday of October, I believe that we should start to consider the electoral code in September so that we could to pass it as a whole in the beginning of October," Parubiy told journalists during a briefing on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

As reported, November 7, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the first reading the draft electoral code, which provides for the introduction of the proportional electoral system with open party lists at the parliamentary elections as well as introduction of changes in the electoral system at local elections.
