Ukraine to participate in NATO summit in format of a meeting with Georgia

Ukraine will participate in the NATO summit, which will be held in Brussels in July. To date, a joint meeting is planned in the Ukraine-Georgia-NATO format.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this at a briefing on Saturday, June 23, as part of a working visit to Lviv region, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"As of today, it is planned that there will be a single Ukraine-Georgia-NATO meeting. It’s not because we cannot choose another format. The NATO summit is already so ‘busy’ that in order to hold a comprehensive meeting, we should do this with our Georgian friends and partners," Klimkin said.

At the same time, he noted that Ukraine and Georgia had a common aspiration to gain membership in NATO and both countries implemented comprehensive reforms, in particular, those focused on security and defense sectors.

"Therefore, we can talk about a common path and a common goal. That is why we chose the format of Ukraine-Georgia-NATO. And there is an additional security aspect around the Black Sea, especially after Russia's occupation of Crimea. I believe that the fact we are discussing this issue together with NATO and Georgia makes us stronger," Klimkin summed up.
