Groysman says law on anti-corruption court may be approved this week
Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman says that the law on an anti-corruption court may be finally approved by the Verkhovna Rada this week.
He stated this at a government meeting on May 23, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"I hope that this decision will be approved this week," Groysman commented on the adoption of the law.
He also stressed that the anti-corruption court should become a truly independent institution.
"It should be an independent institution that is not subordinated to anybody and that is absolutely balanced, self-governing, with a high degree of responsibility and with a high degree of transparency of work," the prime minister stressed.
Groysman added that the creation of the anti-corruption court will become a "strong signal" for both Ukrainian society and international partners and investors about Ukraine's readiness to fight corruption.
As reported, on December 22, 2017, President Petro Poroshenko submitted bill No. 7440 “On the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court” to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. On December 27, the text of the document was posted on the parliament’s website.
On March 1, the Verkhovna Rada adopted at first reading the presidential bill "On the High Anti-Corruption Court" (No. 7440). A total of 282 MPs voted for the approval of the respective draft law.
