Ukraine's consul in Hamburg suspended from office - Foreign Ministry

Ukraine's Consul in Hamburg Vasyl Marushynets, against whom the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry opened disciplinary proceedings, has been suspended from office and could be recalled in the near future, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mariana Betsa has told Ukrinform.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs not only does not tolerate, but also strongly condemns any manifestations of anti-Semitism. This is why the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has opened disciplinary proceedings immediately after reports of possible anti-Semitic posts made by the Ukrainian consul in Hamburg. The consul has currently been suspended from work, and he could be recalled in the near future," Betsa said.

She did not disclose other details of the incident, noting that the Foreign Ministry would report them following a thorough check, which is currently ongoing.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin wrote on Twitter that "for anti-Semites and those who stir up interethnic hostility there can be no place in a civilized society or at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

"The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine begins disciplinary proceedings. We will thoroughly review all the details," Klimkin said.

Earlier reports surfaced in social media that Marushynets posted anti-Semitic publications on his page on Facebook.
