Poroshenko raises issue of additional ‘Crimean’ sanctions at meeting with Macron, Merkel

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a meeting with the leaders of Germany and France has raised the issue of imposing additional sanctions against the organizers of Russia’s illegal presidential election in the occupied Crimea.

He said this during a meeting with journalists in the German city of Aachen, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We talked about de-occupation of Crimea and imposition of sanctions for holding illegal elections [Russian presidential election in Crimea]. We coordinate the actions and the package of sanctions regarding implementation of the Minsk agreements, and the cessation of Russia's aggression in Donbas is inextricably linked with the package of sanctions for the illegal annexation of Crimea," Poroshenko said.

He also informed that the issue of introducing additional "Crimean" sanctions was also discussed during his conversation with Chairman of the European Council Donald Tusk.

"We carefully discussed the policy of sanctions. Sanctions should be extended and new additional sanctions should be introduced, especially against those who took part in organizing and holding the illegal election in Crimea," the president said.
