Lutsenko says when Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Court can start work

The new Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine can start to hear the first cases in early 2019.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said this in an interview with Reuters in London.

According to him, the law on the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court is expected to be approved before parliament’s summer recess.

“(Then) after six or eight months it is possible to hear the first cases,” Lutsenko said

As reported, on December 22, 2017, President Petro Poroshenko submitted bill No. 7440 “On the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court” to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. On December 27, the text of the document was posted on the parliament’s website.

On March 1, the Verkhovna Rada adopted at first reading the presidential bill "On the High Anti-Corruption Court" (No. 7440). A total of 282 MPs voted for the approval of the respective draft law.
