Ukraine’s Vice PM: E-declarations for activists do not violate Association Agreement with EU

Requiring the non-governmental activists to file the electronic asset declarations is not a direct violation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. It is rather an attempt to achieve transparency in their activity with inadequate methods.

"Requiring the non-governmental activists to file the electronic asset declarations is not a direct violation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. It is a violation of a somewhat different type:  a violation of the EU’s principles. It is not a direct violation of the Agreement, but it is an attempt to achieve transparency in the work of activists and non-governmental organizations with inadequate methods. Other approaches can be applied. I am very disappointed that such actions of the Parliament create additional tension, cast a shadow over our relations with the EU," Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze said in an interview with the Obozrevatel Ukrainian media outlet.

Commenting on the progress of Ukraine's implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, she stressed that political will, capable institutions, professional people, clear and transparent procedures were needed to eliminate a gap.
