NSDC to consider imposing sanctions against Russian oligarchs - Poroshenko

Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) will consider in the next few days draft decisions on the introduction of sanctions against Russian oligarchs.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said this at a joint briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"A few days ago, I instructed the Security Service of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the National Security and Defense Council, as well as the secretary of the council, to prepare respective draft decisions that will be submitted to a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council in the next few days. Sanctions will be imposed," Poroshenko said, when asked whether Ukraine will impose sanctions on Russian oligarchs after a similar decision by the United States.

According to the president, the sanctions "will be harmonized as much as possible with the decision of the U.S. government."

"The sanctions will undoubtedly involve Mr. Deripaska and other oligarchs who today are key participants in Russian processes, including on active work in Crimea and in supplies to the Russian Armed Forces, and, of course, Ukraine's reaction will be very quick and decisive," Poroshenko said.
