Law on national security to provide for parliamentary control over Ukraine’s Security Service – Poroshenko

A final version of the law on national security will contain a provision on civilian parliamentary control over the activities of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated this during the events on the occasion of the Day of the Security Service of Ukraine on Saturday.

"The final version of the new law on national security will provide for the introduction of civilian parliamentary control over the activities of the Security Service," he stressed.

According to the president, this provision will give an opportunity to ensure full compliance of the law on national security with NATO standards.

The president also noted that NATO membership remained Ukraine's strategic goal and promised to initiate the introduction of appropriate changes to the Constitution in the near future.
