Berlin does not consider Crimea a territory of Russia – German government

Berlin still does not recognize Crimea as part of the Russian Federation and, accordingly, holding of the Russian election on the peninsula.

Spokesperson of the Federal Government of Germany Steffen Seibert said this in comments to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Germany's position on the issue of Crimea is clear, it is known and has not changed – in our opinion the annexation of Crimea was an illegal act. That's why we do not consider Crimea as part of the Russian territory, it's part of the Ukrainian territory," Seibert said.

In addition, he did not comment on a visit of another German politician to Crimea, citing the fact that the Foreign Ministry issued clear "recommendations" to refrain from traveling to the occupied peninsula.
