Peacekeepers in Donbas to ensure full implementation of Minsk agreements

The European Union is involved in the discussion regarding the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas, which should be aimed at the full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The Vice President of the European Commission - High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, said this in her speech at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"As for a UN peacekeeping mission, the work in this direction continues. We are taking part in this process within the framework of the UN. The main thing is that this work should be aimed at the full implementation of the Minsk agreements," Mogherini said.

She also noted that the EU provided assistance and support to the OSCE SMM. "We provide more than half of the funding for this Mission, and all this work is aimed at the full implementation of the Minsk agreements," the European Commission’s vice-president added.

Mogherini also stressed that it was important to ensure coordination of all efforts undertaken by the EU member states, the OSCE SMM, the European Union and efforts within the UN to ensure peace in eastern Ukraine.
