Former U.S. ambassador to Moldova urges not to recognize elections in territories occupied by Russia

Vice President for International Programs at the Washington State University, former U.S. ambassador to Moldova Asif Chaudhry has called on the international community to recognize the Russian presidential election in Ukraine’s occupied territories invalid.

He stated this in his speech during the inter-parliamentary conference "The Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges" in Chisinau, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We must call the aggressor by name. This is unacceptable when someone comes to your country and wants to hold elections there. We call on the international community to recognize the Russian presidential election in the occupied territories of Ukraine invalid," the diplomat said.

The former ambassador stressed that the U.S. and the EU should reinforce the support for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia in order to stop Russian aggression.
