Prosecutor general signs motion to bring MP Bakulin to account

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has signed a motion for detention and prosecution of Opposition Bloc MP Yevhen Bakulin.

The prosecutor general's spokesman, Andriy Lysenko, reported this on his Facebook page.

"Ukraine's Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has signed a petition for bringing to criminal liability, granting consent for detention and selecting a measure of restraint for Opposition Bloc MP Yevhen Bakulin," he wrote.

Lutsenko said on February 2 that he intended to submit a motion to the Verkhovna Rada in order to bring Bakulin to criminal liability due to the investigation into the case regarding the purchase of jack-up rigs in 2011 at an overstated price, known as "Boiko's oil rigs."

Bakulin headed Naftogaz of Ukraine from March 2010 to March 2014. In March 2014, he was arrested on suspicion of embezzling large sums of money in the case. Subsequently, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court released Bakulin on UAH 10 million bail.
