Record number of amendments submitted to Electoral Code – Parubiy

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy has said that 4,400 amendments have been submitted to the draft law on the Electoral Code of Ukraine.

The speaker said on the air of the ICTV Ukrainian TV Channel, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“As of today, 4,400 amendments have been submitted. I will remind you that this is the largest bill in the history of the Ukrainian parliament of not only this convocation, but also over the last 25 years. Amendments to the procedural codes had numbered 3,383 amendments before judicial reforms. Thus, our law reached the highest level of discussions,” he noted.

At the same time, he said he hopes that the relevant parliamentary committee will develop the bill for second reading.

As earlier reported, on November 7, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada approved in first reading a draft Electoral Code that envisaged the introduction of a proportional electoral system with open party lists at parliamentary elections, as well as the change of electoral system at local elections.
