Poroshenko: Resolution on Crimea is a powerful signal to aggressor

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has welcomed the adoption of a resolution of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on the violation of human rights in Crimea.

The head of state wrote about this on his Facebook page.

"I welcome the adoption of the resolution of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on the violation of human rights in Crimea. I am grateful to the true friends of the Ukrainian Crimea, including co-authors of the resolution and those who supported it with their votes. Despite Moscow's hybrid attempts to close the 'Crimean issue,' the international front of the de-occupation of Crimea is gaining ground. Despite the Kremlin's brutal repression, the human will and dignity cannot be broken. Despite frank manipulation, the crimes of the Kremlin cannot be hidden, and the international accountability for them of customers, organizers and executors cannot be avoided," Poroshenko said.

He added that the resolution was a powerful signal to the aggressor as an occupying power and that the rule of international law, truth and justice are on the side of Ukraine.

As reported, the UN General Assembly approved a resolution entitled "Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine," which was supported by the UNGA's Third Committee last month.

The vote was held in New York on Tuesday, December 19. The resolution was supported by 70 UN member states, 76 abstained, and 26 countries voted against the document.
