Tsegolko makes public Saakashvili's letter to Poroshenko

Former Head of Odesa Regional State Administration Mikheil Saakashvili has confessed in a letter to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that he made a lot of political mistakes.

Presidential press secretary Svyatoslav Tsegolko reported this on his Facebook page, having posted a respective letter.

"Saakashvili confessed in a letter to President that he made and makes a lot of political mistakes. He called for de-escalation of the situation, promised not to resort to further destabilization and offered negotiations with an 'authorized representative.' Instead, as the storming of the International Center of Culture and Arts on Alley of the Heroes of Heavenly Hundred shows, Mr. Saakashvili did not keep his word," Tsegolko said.

He added that "given numerous requests of journalists, as well as comments by Saakashvili himself, in which he manipulates the content of this letter, it was decided to make it public."

As reported, Saakashvili wrote a private letter to President Poroshenko with a proposal for reconciliation. Saakashvili also said that he was ready to negotiate with Poroshenko.

At the same time, supporters of Saakashvili-led Movement of New Forces party held the so-called people's assembly on December 17, after which they tried to storm the International Center of Culture and Arts. Law enforcers prevented activists from seizing the building, using fire extinguishers and tear gas. Sixty National Guard servicemen and 17 police officers were injured in scuffles.

Investigators opened three criminal proceedings due to the events near the Zhovtnevy Palace - under Articles 15, 341 (an attempt to seize state or public buildings or structures), Article 345 (threat or violence against an employee of a law enforcement agency) and Article 343 (intervention in the activities of a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
